Thanks to the Eileen Hewer Community Fund, the young people who attend our Lawley Youth Club have additional activities to enjoy.

The fund, which is managed by Bournville Village Trust (BVT), donated a £1,000 grant so we could buy new sports equipment, enhancing the range of activities on offer at the weekly club.

Caroline Cadbury, Chair of the Trustees of BVT, visited during a recent session to see the impact of the grant. Following her visit, she said: “It was fantastic to see first-hand the difference these grants are making to the local community. Speaking to the young people and seeing them enjoy the sports equipment bought through the grant was great.”

Caroline was also able to speak to members about the positives of attending Lawley Youth Club, including Freya who said: “Before I came to the group, I used to be nervous in new situations, but attending the group has really helped. I think it is a really good way for kids to chill and make new friends.”

The free club runs every Friday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Lawley Community Centre, with anyone aged between ten and 16 welcome to attend.

Gemma Hargreaves, our Corporate and Events Engagement officer, said: “The youth club provides a safe and fun place for young people to attend. They can take part in a range of activities from sports to arts and crafts, as well as pool and darts. We are extremely grateful to Bournville Village Trust and the Eileen Hewer Community Fund for the grant, which has provided much-needed equipment.”

The Eileen Hewer Community Fund awards grants to groups and organisations working to benefit the Lawley community and its residents – with funding available to support equipment for local groups, organisational or running costs, environmental improvements, facilities for residents, or activities and projects. Applications can be made throughout the year and are reviewed by the resident-led Lawley Management Committee. Click here for more information.
