Creating purpose, connection and joy in the heart of the community

Launched in September 2024, the Ditherington Wellbeing Group has become a vital weekly space for adults to support their mental and emotional health. Hosted at Ditherington Community Centre, sessions run year-round, including Bank Holidays, offering consistent connection for those who may have few other social contacts.
The two-hour sessions combine creativity, relaxation and community spirit, with activities ranging from mindful art and seasonal crafts to gardening, quizzes, and baking with homegrown produce. The group garden has flourished thanks to attendee contributions, with plans to add a bug hotel to strengthen ties with nature.
Supported outings to places such as Barmouth seaside, Percy Thrower's Garden Centre and OMH Cinema provide safe, accessible opportunities for new experiences and shared joy. Attendees even organise informal meetups when the facilitator is away, showing the strong bonds that have formed.
The facilitator also provides holistic support, from help with technology and transport to hospital visits, ensuring participants feel cared for beyond the group setting.
Impact:
- Increased confidence and reduced isolation
- Strong peer support and sense of belonging
- Improved mental wellbeing through creativity and connection
- A culture of giving back and shared ownership
In the words of participants:
"It gives me purpose."
"I’ve found friendship and support."
"What a treat!"
